Literacy in PE Put on the Back Burner
With the addition of all our new assessments and finding new ways to evaluate our students, I feel I have not been able to find much time to incorporate literacy activities into our PE classes. This is something I was very passionate about last year and spent a lot of time developing and creating materials for various literacy warm-ups and activities. Now there just does not seem to be enough time in a 50 minute class and in the school year for everything! How do we find time when our curriculum is already full and we still need to add more assessments and activities?!

I hear ya! We can hardly fit all the standards in let alone any fun first grade projects!! I was thinking you could incorporate some literacy into your stations on days that you guys do stations. They could be word or sentence relays. For example for younger students they can grab words to make sentences or in older grades they could put words in alphabetical order or put popular songs in the right order? I don't know...it is certainly tough with all the requirements!
ReplyDeleteI agree Jill. It seems we are crunched for time at Pearson and Sweeney too. It's amazing how many different units we teach and how 'on point' we have to be to cover everything in our quarterly check-in. All we can really do is try! : )
